New Year’s Resolution ticked off

With no better feeling than crossing off a new year’s resolution, 38-year old Carmela Guarini was pleasantly surprised to find herself doing so sooner than anticipated. Back in January, Carmela set her main goal for 2019 as stepping onto the property ladder for the first time and with the help of leading housing association Peabody, she was able to move in a stunning one-bedroom apartment at Battersea Reach, a Shared Ownership development in the award-winning riverside location of Battersea.

Previously renting in Hammersmith with her sister, Carmela was familiar with the government’s Shared Ownership scheme but thought she’d never be able to afford a property with a single income in Battersea, the area she had always dreamt of buying in. However, after receiving an email alert for Peabody’s Wandsworth development Battersea Reach, her dream home was looking more affordable than she thought.

Carmela explains: “My new year goal was to move out in 2019. At the beginning of the year I wasn’t actively looking, however I had subscribed to emailer informing me of new developments in London and when I received one from Peabody, I couldn’t believe my luck – the development was available through Shared Ownership and was in the perfect location that I really wanted to buy into. I thought why not just go for it! I booked in a viewing for the following weekend and as soon as I saw it, it felt right. The market is different now – you can’t waste time you just have to go for it.”

Every apartment at Battersea Reach comprises a contemporary and modern open-plan interior with high specifications throughout, including high gloss cabinets, under-unit lighting, granite and quartz effect countertops, and convenient underfloor heating. Carmela was particularly impressed with the thoughtful layout and the quality of the apartment. She comments: “I’m very happy with the decision I took to purchase a new build. The space is bright, spacious and welcoming. It’s also always nice to know that if I had any problems, I’d get the help I need. I also felt instantly at home and comfortable here.”

As well as a high-quality finish, all residents at Battersea Reach can enjoy exclusive access to 24-hour concierge services, an on-site fitness suite and onsite cafés and restaurants – including the delicious menus at Cake Boy, The Waterfront and Ô Gourmet.

The area also had a lot to offer, with its connectivity and lifestyle being key influential factors. From a nearby cinema – The Grand in Clapham to a variety of shopping destinations such as Shop Stop at Clapham Junction and Southside in Wandsworth, Battersea provides the perfect urban lifestyle whilst still in close proximity to a number of parks, including Clapham Common and Battersea Park. High connected, Battersea Reach is just a 15-minute walk away from Clapham Junction where the London Overground is accessible. Victoria Station is reachable in eight-minutes, a gateway to Soho in just three-minutes via the Victoria line. Additionally, Wandsworth Town station is just an eight-minute walk away, as well as a number of connected bus routes to Chelsea and beyond also surround the development, a key factor that appealed to Carmela’s decision to buy at Battersea Reach.

Carmela comments: “Battersea Reach was the perfect location for me as it was on the riverside. I’ve always loved riverside areas on the river, however, the location needed to be convenient. I was always looking for a place near Victoria as I work there, and an airport, as I travel a lot for work. Many of my friends live in West London so I knew I’d always stay close by. Wandsworth is also close to Fulham and Clapham which have a great social scene.”

Always wanting to own her own flat in London, Carmela was delighted this was achieved sooner than she first imagined. Carmela was reluctant to waste any more time and the support she received from Peabody was flawless. She continues: “Peabody were great with me – Marie was amazing and extremely helpful throughout the whole process! Wes was also lovely when I had to laisse with him.”

There are currently five one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedroom apartments left to purchase at Battersea Reach with prices starting at £119,375 for a 25 per cent of a one-bed apartment and £140,625 for a two-bedroom apartment.
