Real Life Case Study : Director of market research company puts down roots in the big city thanks to shared ownership

Dino, 37, fell in love with the thrill of the big city when he moved from the Italian countryside to London. He soon realised he was ready to put down roots and buy a home.

"The London housing market was a little bit of a shock to me coming from Italy, where pretty much everyone is a homeowner," Dino says. "I really wanted to own a home and I couldn't wait forever until the market was accessible for me.

"My best friend bought through shared ownership a few years ago and he had a really positive experience. So I started looking and came across Moat at Kidbrooke Village."

Dino works from home as a market research director and was looking for the peaceful environment that his rented Vauxhall apartment was missing. Kidbrooke Village has more than 130 acres of parkland and open space and was exactly what Dino was looking for.

"I was curious to see this part of London and it was a real surprise. I saw a new generation of building at Kidbrooke Village and it looked really pretty," he explains. "I was looking for peace and quiet, but I didn't want to be too disconnected from central London as I'm often up in Soho and at the Southbank meeting friends at the weekend."

Now Dino is the proud owner of a one bedroom apartment in Merlin Court at Kidbrooke Village that he bought through shared ownership with Moat.

"The first thing I noticed was how spacious it was. I'd seen other one bedroom apartments in London that were a lot smaller. The quality on my apartment is really high and the finish is so detailed. I fell in love with it straight away.

"The additional facilities that you can find at the concierge, such as the business suite, are perfect for me because it gives me the break I need from working at home," Dino adds. "I've made friends with neighbours who also use the on-site gym. It's fantastic to have the pool because I love swimming and I have used the movie room too."

Dino is now planning his next steps. "I'll definitely be buying more shares as and when I can. I'm also going to buy a car as I'm so close to the countryside – it reminds me of home!"
